12 editors pick the one beauty product they’d take on a desert island
by Souzan MichaelIf you ever find yourself in a room full of fashion and beauty editors, ask them each which beauty product they’d take on a desert island, and then sit back and watch panic ensue. Our editors recently answered the seriously difficult question, and to make it even harder, no one was allowed to pick sunscreen (because otherwise everyone would have, of course).
From favourite mascaras to must-have lip balms, our editors weighed in on the products that they buy over and over again and could never part with—island or not.

“I once abruptly left a first date because I didn’t have my Nivea lip balm on me and I became too irritable to be out in a public place. While I’m definitely ashamed of that story, it’s safe to say that I’m not heading to any island without it.”
-Suzie Michael, Associate Digital Editor
Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm ($3, at drugstores)

“Seeing as how I’d be stuck on a desert island, and sunscreen does not count (I would use all available shade as my protection) and I cannot possibly choose one item for my face, then I would take Weleda Body Wash in Citrus. This smells incredible, has no sulfates and makes sweat and BO nothing but a foamy memory.”
-Lesa Hannah, Beauty Director
Weleda Body Wash in Citrus ($12, well.ca)

“My mom got me using it when I first started wearing mascara in my teens, and it’s always been our go-to. It’s not clumpy, covers well, separates lashes without being too thin on product. I’ve tried a million others and still come back to it. Thanks Mom!”
-Erin Seaman, Photo Editor
Estée Lauder More Than Mascara ($26, esteelauder.com)

“My Shiseido eyelash curler is like a jolt of caffeine and an 8-hour sleep rolled into two 10-second squeezes. Sans mascara the look says beach goddess, which seems very apropos given the setting.”
