Since the pair’s introduction in 1953 on the set of Hepburn’s film Sabrina (where Givenchy was actually expecting to meet the other, more famous Hepburn at the time, Katherine), the two became close friends, eventually collaborating on the LBD that launched a thousand impersonators, seen in the opening credits of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

A bohemian match made in heaven, Loulou de la Falaise captivated YSL with her rebellious nature and free spirit. She was said to have served as the inspiration behind his legendary Le Smoking tuxedo and Rive Gauche collection before the two joined forces in 1972 and went on to work together for the next three decades.

From Studio 54 to society galas, these partners-in-crime were often photographed conquering the heady 1970s party circuit of NYC.
