Our neighbours just south of the border may be celebrating the 4th of July today, but across the pond, an equally-as-important event is taking place—the 17th wedding anniversary of the original royal couple, David and Victoria Beckham. Perhaps more than any other celebrity couple, the Beckhams have provided us with years and years of memorable red carpet moments, and for that we are eternally grateful. The couples of today are undoubtedly lucky to have years of David and Victoria Beckham fashion moments to learn from.
David and Victoria Beckham’s fashion moments may be consistently on point these days, but this was not always the case. Back in the day, their style choices ranged from terrifying to mystifying and sometimes downright bleak. Whether their hair was bleached and meticulously gelled, or they were decked out in questionable fabrics, what remained consistent throughout the years was their love for matching attire, and we’ll always admire their dedication to that. Before Britney and Justin did matching denim, David and Victoria did matching in a way that no one has ever been able to replicate. If nothing else, we have to respect the amount of time and planning that must have required.
From the confusing days of matching head-to-toe leather in the ’90s to their wonderfully chic ensembles of today, we take a look back at 17 years of David and Victoria Beckham fashion.

The wispy bangs, the matching highlights. The iconic leather jacket with popped collar. We’ll forever be grateful for this moment.

At the 2001 NRJ Music Awards, the Beckhams taught us that marriage is about give and take, so when David’s velvet (?) pants stole the show, Victoria gladly took the backseat.

Once again, David’s pants outshine Victoria’s halter top and that’s okay because that’s love.

Little known fact: David was wearing a similar leather piece back in ’07 but changed out of it before heading out as to not steal Victoria’s thunder. Maybe. Probably.
