Just like $50k and a 5-year waiting list would never stop us fashion gals from a Birkin bag, a little rain held no one back from attending Tuesday night’s blowout Hérmes menswear event in Toronto. Held at the Distillery District’s Fermenting Cellar, the event gave well-heeled locals the chance to hobnob with the brand’s artistic director Véronique Nichanian while engaging in some seriously trippy, err, happenings. Cases in point: a giant maze connecting one change room into another on endless loop, male models disguised as normal people inconspicuously popping up within the crowd in rotating Hérmes wares and a prohibition era bar serving up cocktails referred to as penicillin. Dreamed up by Argentinian conceptual artist Leandro Erlich, the playful installations set the stage for the French label’s latest assortment of rich silks, leathers, watches and fragrances to displayed (and by that we mean ogled). As is to be expected with any large gathering of fashion folk, a raucous dance party ensued, with everyone from Jeanne Beker to Samantha and Caillianne Beckerman indulging in a little Rih. Because what’s the use of sharing airspace with male models without the opportunity to potentially grind up on them.
