22 Pieces You Need From Uniqlo’s Second Collaboration With Marimekko
We might *technically* still be in fall, but winter is most certainly here. So, naturally, we’re looking to refresh our outerwear line-up which is why news of Uniqlo’s second collaboration with Finnish brand Marimekko is music to our (already very cold) ears.
Launching on November 28, the second collection is inspired by Finnish winter traditions with Marimekko’s bright prints adorning some of Uniqlo’s signature silhouettes. The new collection also includes some of the brand’s best archival prints, including Maija Louekari’s Siirtolapuutarha from 2009 and Palloset from 2007 and Maija Isola’s Kivet from 1956 and Pergola from 1965.
For the first time ever, Uniqlo is introducing an Ultra Light Down cocoon coat (in two different lengths and various prints) as part of the collection. Other items include jumpsuits, sweaters, dresses and wool cashmere hoodies, in addition to HEATTECH essentials. Plus, there are also complementary pieces for girls and babies available for the first time.
Tiina Alahuhta-Kakso, the president and CEO of Marimekko, said in a statement, “The new limited edition collection features Marimekko’s bold prints and colours in winterly wardrobe essentials made for all. We believe that together with Uniqlo we have been able to create something truly special for our customers and can’t wait to see this new line bring joy to people’s daily lives around the world.” Yuki Katsuta, Uniqlo’s head of R&D, added, “What a beautiful way to stay warm in the coming winter months, while celebrating a touch of Finnish tradition.”
