5 things you can do now that you’re free from the shackles of contouring
You guys, contouring is over. At the Vogue UK Festival, Kim Kardashian recently revealed that she’s over contouring. Let that sink in for a second. The kween of kontour herself is done with it—mostly. “I just wore too much [makeup], I loved false eyelashes and used to pile them on, but now I’m really into nontouring. I’m trying to wear less makeup and my husband loves it,” she said. “Now I strobe with highlighter rather than using a bronzer to contour as it just looks too heavy. I’m going for a lighter makeup look now.” There’s just one catch. “I’ll always contour my nose. I know people think I’ve had a nose job but it really is just makeup!”
So there you have it. On the other end of spectrum (like, the very other end), Pope Francis met with a crew of beauty vloggers a couple of weeks ago and praised them for their work, explaining that “to preach beauty and show beauty helps neutralize aggression.”
So, the Pope is into contouring but Kim K. isn’t. What a time to be alive.
If you’re putting down the contour kit—not that we’re saying you should; you do you, tbh—you may suddenly find yourself with a lot of free time as a result. As you know, contouring takes a lot of time and dedication. It takes (took?) Kim Kardashian at least two hours to get her makeup done every day. Two hours! So, we’ve rounded up some of the cool things you can do with your newfound time.
1. Nail art
Do you know why Kim’s nails are always short and pink? Because she has no time for nail art, thanks to contouring. (That is very likely not true but it could be.) Now both of you have time to experiment with nail art at home. Intimidated? Look no further than these 20 super-easy, minimalist designs.
2. Braids
Summer is the season of braids. While you were busy drawing geometric shapes on your face, other people learned to create braids so beautiful they’d make Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella jealous. Here are eight braids you can do that aren’t culturally offensive.
3. Multi-coloured everything
While you were swimming in a sea of taupes, browns, nudes and…more browns, other people discovered cute ways to wear rainbows on their faces! From rainbow lashes to rainbow brows, your summer’s about to get a lot brighter.
4. Get naked
Not really (unless that’s what you want) but you can learn how to show off your bra this summer without looking sloppy. Here are five ways to do just that, inspired by our fave street style stars.
5. Shop for jewellery
We’ve found 20 gorgeous stackable rings to stock up on, because less is definitely not more—but you already knew that. Pile ’em up.
