6 Decades of Italian Fashion Are On Display at Toronto’s Yorkville Village
As a celebration of Italian Heritage Month here in Canada, Toronto’s Yorkville Village has unveiled an exhibit of Italian fashion through the ages. Put together by the Consulate General of Italy, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Yorkville Village, and Galgano & Tota Associati, the ’60 Years of Made in Italy’ exhibit brings together pieces from acclaimed fashion houses like Prada, Gucci, Brioni, Fendi and more.
Developed by Galgano & Tota Associati, this Toronto display marks the exhibit’s Canadian debut. Spanning sixty years of Italian fashion, the exhibit serves as a quick walk through Italy’s sartorial history, charting a trajectory that can be be traced back to 1950s Florence. From a sweeping Valentino gown in the house’s signature red to a cheeky Moschino dress crafted out of lace bras, from a Picasso-inspired skirt by Lancetti to a paisley Etro ensemble, and even the infamous Versace palm-print dress donned by Jennifer Lopez to the 2000 Grammys, the exhibit brings together a varied and eclectic mix of pieces, including jewellery, handbags and shoes.
“The items that are on display come from various archival and private collections, making this exhibit truly one-of-a-kind,” says Alessia Tota, exhibit curator.
The exhibit is free and open to the public from now until July 3.
