In recent years, my beauty resolutions seem to gear toward skincare rather than makeup. After all, “beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin,” as the famous makeup artist Shu Uemura once said. This year it’s no different.
I resolve to focus on getting my skin in the best possible shape, so I plan to explore more natural skincare products, like the May Lindstrom Masque I have on in the above photo. Now I know that you can’t always go natural, especially when your goal is to have your makeup last all day. Sometimes with skincare and makeup, the tried-and-true products are the way to go. However, on a day-to-day basis, I’m thinking about mixing it up and paying more attention to what I’m putting on my face and body. RMS Beauty, Josie Maran, Herbivore Botanicals and Tata Harper are a few other brands on my radar this year.

In 2017, I’m really looking forward to the no-mascara trend. I have very light, blonde lashes, and some days I feel like a completely different person depending on whether I wear mascara or not. It feels liberating to take such an expected step out of the beauty equation and play with the idea of going completely natural with your lashes (especially when they hardly have any pigment in them!). I really love this look paired with a bright or dark bold lip, lots of highlighter and some big, beautiful brows.

My 2017 beauty resolution is something that I have always wanted to do but never had the confidence for. This might seem silly, but I want to be confident enough to go barefaced more often (and not just when I’m going to and from the gym!). Admittedly, I don’t take care of my skin enough—I really want to change that this year. Of course, my love for makeup isn’t going anywhere. I just need to feed my love for skincare just a little bit more. The first step? Drink more water!

My biggest beauty resolution is actually a continuation of last year’s goal: To kiss my dull, acne-prone skin goodbye. Hello, glowing, clear skin.
Over the past year, I’ve found a few tools that have helped me in my beauty quest: NuFace, PMD and a Clarisonic brush. I want to continue using them on the regular because I’ve seen amazing results. I’ve also found a few other brands I now cannot live without: Tatcha, Philosophy, Indie Lee, Odacité, Bioderma, Burt’s Bees, Vichy and Rocky Mountain Soap Co—to name a few. Long-term use is key, so I’m going to stick to the products I’ve found in the last year that were working for my skin.

This year, I plan to try try the relaxed red-lip look. While red lips are always associated with full-on makeup and Hollywood glamour, this season’s take on the rouge is with no-makeup makeup. That means minimal allover—subtle eyeshadows and blush and just letting the red lips speak for themselves! The trick is to find your perfect shade of red, and sometimes that means mixing two different shades together to get the colour that’s right for you.
