6 Trends from New York Fashion Week to Get You Excited About Spring
by Eliza GrossmanThe first week of fashion month has flown by and while fresh of the flight from New York, we are already hard at work pouring over the Spring 2017 collections to bring you the first hit of the trends to come. There’s no doubt that spring is looking bright with bold blasts of colour and plenty of flouncy fabrics. Designers played with men’s shirting, reworked classic proportions and we spied lots of super long sleeves.
Here are the top 6 trends from New York to look forward to next spring.
1/18
Shirting
Throw away any preconceived ideas on how a shirt should fit. Proportions are mixed and deconstructed this season for something totally new.

Fringe
A festival favourite that feels fantastic to wear, it’s no surprise that fringe has made a return this season. The swooshing strings are contrasted with feminine fabrics for a new take on the trend.

Ruffles
This feminine favourite keeps coming back. What feels especially new is reworking ruffles for both day and night. A stiff cotton, ruffled collar and jeans works just as well as a flowing, ruffled, evening gown.

Statement Earrings
Do your earrings hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? The message this season is ‘bigger is better’, with collections like Delpozo, Proenza Schouler and Rodarte showing earings that dust shoulders and collarbones. These larger than life jewels make a major statement.

Super Long Sleeves
No hands, no problem. Designers yet again extended sleeves to almost impractical proportions, reaching far beyond fingertips. This trend borders on absurd but elevates a simple silhouette to super fashion forward.

Bra Baring
Designers are skipping the shirt this season and opting for exposed bra tops. It’s not a huge jump from the crop top but can be sexy or sporty.
