6 works of art created with Burt’s Bees lipstick that you have to see to believe
Lipstick seemingly only has one use. Okay two: it can double as blush. But at Burt’s Bees’ Shades exhibit, it’s been repurposed as an art medium. Using the brand’s forthcoming natural lipsticks, 10 artists from across the country used the 14 colours to create original artwork, now on display at Arta Gallery in Toronto’s Distillery District until March 11. Each of the pieces are for sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to Wildlife Preservation Canada, which Burt’s has partnered with to save native bumblebees.
None of the artists had worked with lipstick before, and therein laid the challenge. Since the product never dries, unlike paint, the pieces had to be handled extra carefully. But from pop art to abstract, each artist embraced the constraint that was presented, producing images that are so creative, it’s almost impossible to believe they were created with lipstick.
