7 of Paris Fashion Week’s top trends for Fall 2016, 41 ways to wear them
by Randi BergmanThe inner workings of fashion week may be shifting by the minute, but one thing will never change (at least for now—I know better than to say anything finite about style) is the prevalence and importance of trends. In Paris this season, there were a few motifs reworked from runway to runway, and while their influence is obvious (the overshadowing presence of Demna Gvasalia and his first collection for Balenciaga), they each shone brightly in their own unique context.
Flip through for 41 of the biggest trends of Paris Fashion Week Fall 2016. You’ll be wearing ‘em in 5,4,3,2…1.

Crazy shoulders
Call it the remnants of last season’s ‘80s trend (or as I previously mentioned, the influence of Vetements and Demna Gvasalia), but shoulders neared Dynasty proportions this season at Saint Laurent, Isabel Marant and yes, Vetements.

The red dress
It’s too bad Jessica Rabbit isn’t a real person—she’d have had a gay ole time picking her poison at Nina Ricci, Issey Miyake and Haider Ackermann.

Nightgowns, ruffles and slips—oh my!
One of the three appeared on virtually every runway last season, and to my surprise, this season too. From the super sexy Givenchy version to the Mormon take at Kenzo—there’s a nightie for everyone.

Denim-YOLO
I won’t bore you with another uninspired line about how important denim is. You already know it, but this time around you’ve just got more to work with courtesy of Off White, Balenciaga and Miu Miu.

Arty earrings
If the MoMa was smart, it’d be stocking up on Fall 2016’s offering of modern art statement earrings. At Ellery, they felt like Miro. At Stella McCartney they felt like Brancusi. At Balenciaga, they felt just like Sid Vicious (if he were a sculpter).

Neck scarves
Some form of a choker has been trending for a few seasons, but the neck wrap of choice for fall was the silk scarf—whether collegiate at Dries Van Noten, bowed at Chloé or seductive at Rochas.
