In case you’ve been existing under a rock, or you’re residing in a WiFi-less zone (in which case, welcome back! Happy to have you), you know that rapper, and former TV personality, Cardi B is having an incredible year. In fact, she’s having a record-breaking, history-making year. Her single, “Bodak Yellow,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last fall, making Cardi the first female rapper to hit number one on her own, since Lauryn Hill did it in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”…two decades ago. Other female rappers have reached number two—Nicki Minaj with “Anaconda,” Eve (and Gwen Stefani) with “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” Lil’ Kim (and 50 Cent) with “Magic Stick”—but they never quite made it to the top. You can read more about why it’s so important here.
But on to Cardi B, outside of music. She gradually built up her social media following over the years, which is now at a cool 34 million on Instagram alone. She took her Instagram fame to the small screen, becoming a regular on Love and Hip Hop: New York. She’s largely considered the breakout star of the seasons she appeared on (six and seven) and left the show at the end of 2016 to pursue music.
Which brings us to now. After releasing “Bodak Yellow” in June, the song enjoyed a steady chart climb and legit insane (and well-deserved) radio airplay. “I Like It” from her critically acclaimed debut album, Invasion of Privacy, also reached number one, making her the first female rapper to achieve multiple chart-toppers.
Below, take a look at some of Cardi’s many, many memorable beauty looks over the past couple years, from waist-length red hair to flawless fringe to bright blue under-eye liner. In the meantime, we’ll be waiting for Cardi’s inevitable upcoming beauty contract. Who will it be? M.A.C? Fenty Beauty? Only time will tell.
