Afternoon beauty fix: A soothing balm that will help take care of sun damage
What was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon turned rather stressful after my facialist told me that a patchy of red blotchy skin was a sign of sun damage. What can I do to prevent it from getting worse?
UV exposure can show itself in different ways—enlarged pores, thick skin cells, discolouration—and it’s as equally important to care for damage already done as it is to proactively prevent it. I recommend returning oils that have been depleted by the sun (twice per day) to calm redness and reduce swelling. Healing ingredients include green tea and aloe vera for moisture, and licorice extract and lavender as anti-inflammatory aids. Carrot seed oil, an extract found in Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 moisturizing balm ($88, at Sephora) helps to regenerate skin cells back to their healthy selves. Applying it regularly will save your inflamed cells from changing colour in the future, and its shea butter and glycerin medley will ensure your skin is moisturized comfortably throughout the day.
