Afternoon beauty fix: Pale skin is in! But if you still want to look tanned, try this
Now that it’s officially winter, I need an alternative to a tanning bed to boost my pale complexion. I’ve resolved to care for my skin this year with lots of SPF, so should I try a self-tanner?
From Cate Blanchett to Julianne Moore, Florence Welch and beyond, fair skin is appealing not only ’cause it’s sexy, but also ’cause it’s a sign that you’ve routinely protected your skin from the sun. However, if you love a bronzed finish or are preparing for a wintertime escape, here are a few options (to apply overtop your SPF, of course). Firstly, a self-tan cream that becomes darker with each application is good for either a full-body bronze or spot-treatment tan—and it lasts longer than a day. St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse ($38 at Sephora) leaves a natural finish that dries quickly and smells very pretty, especially when compared to its other stinky predecessors. For a tanned face, lightly dust a matte bronzing powder on all the spots where the sun hits naturally: your cheekbones, brow bones and décolletage. Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons Tailor-Made Bronzing Powder ($74 at Sephora) has four colour quadrants with varying depths, which look great individually or can be blended together to build a deeper, darker tone.
