Afternoon beauty fix: The trick to washing away glitter and grime at the end of the day
I always remove my makeup and then wash my face but I still see remnants of the glitter from my bronzer on my skin. What am I doing wrong?
Super-fine mineral makeup and waxy eyeliners love to linger—if you’re wearing those, there lies your problem. One simple solution is to switch up your makeup brands and try a new formula, but we think it’s much easier to change your makeup-removal routine. Before using your cleanser, lay a hot washcloth over your face—the heat will open pores to loosen their grip on adamant pigment. Remove your eye makeup with a cotton ball soaked in an oil-rich face wash, like Consonant Organic Foaming Face Wash ($18, consonantbody.com), which includes tea tree and grape seed oil. An essential oil by itself (olive, for instance) would also work—the rule of thumb here is that oils remove other oils! For the rest of your face, you’ll want to use a gentle scrub to dislodge tiny makeup particles stuck in your skin, followed by a toner to further clarify your wide-open pores. RAW Essentials Radiant Face Scrub ($15, shoppersdrugmart.ca) is pretty awesome because it kills three birds with one stone by cleansing with cocoate (a natural cleanser made from sugar), toning with aloe and eucalyptus leaf oil, and scrubbing away excess dirt (or glitter) with tiny, gentle microbeads.
