Aidy Bryant Announces Launch of Plus-Size Clothing Line, Pauline
We’ll never get tired of bringing you news on new brands with inclusivity at the forefront and today’s is particularly exciting: Aidy Bryant has announced the launch of her very own plus-size clothing line. Called Pauline (named after her great aunt), the line launched with a single dress design that’s available in sizes 12-28.
In a video posted on the brand’s website, Bryant explained her motivation for creating the range saying, “I have been a fat lady my whole damn life and I always felt like there were clothes out there, but not what I wanted. And what I wanted was something easy and simple and cool, but also comfortable and I couldn’t find it.” She added that she made what was available to her work and she liked what we wore but confessed that she never truly felt like herself.
It was when she got to SNL at the age of 25 and “had access to all these stylists and tailors and people to make clothes that really fit me and fit my personality,” that she had what she calls a “life-changing” moment in regards to her relationship with fashion.
In recent years, and particularly off the back of her latest series Shrill, the actress and comedian said she’s been inundated with questions from women who want to know where they can buy the pieces she wears. Realizing that they were custom-made, Bryant teamed up with her stylist Remy Pierce to bring the clothing to life in a publicly accessible way — hence, Pauline. The pieces, she explains, have been inspired by pieces she’s worn in the past.
The line has launched with the Lovington Dress, a cool button-up dress available in gingham and stripe prints or a block-colour blue. Of the design, Bryant explains that it’s “easy, cool, made with nice fabrics, and [has] pockets so you can put your shit in there.”
There are plans to expand the line based on feedback from customers — we suspect there’ll be plenty more to come.
The Lovington Dress by Pauline is $235. The website currently only ships to the United States so we suggest ordering yours ahead of your next trip across the border.
