All the Brands, Bands and Fans Getting Involved in the Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj Feud

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B may have called a peace pact earlier this week, but the casualty count of their feud continues to rise. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the drama, let’s recap: last month Cardi and Nicki engaged in a public fight at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons’ party during NYFW. Cardi threw her shoe at Minaj, was escorted out of the building, blah blah blah.

Chances are, you saw the viral video footage—probably from multiple camera phone angles. On Monday, Nicki took to Queen Radio to dish on the infamous altercation, adding fuel to the already blazing fire. It didn’t take Cardi long to respond, punching back with a series of selfie videos posted to Instagram, where she breaks down in detail each of the claims made hours earlier by Nicki.

Which brings us here. Over the past couple of days, multiple fashion deals, song features and brands have been caught in the crossfire. And since they’re already being used as pawns in the battle, it appears they couldn’t help but dip their toes in the receipt tossing drama. So grab a pot of tea and a towel to mop it up, because one thing sure is clear: nobody is excluded from this narrative.

Little Mix

THE SITUATION: Who was the first choice to guest feature on “Woman Like Me,” the Little Mix song released with Nicki Minaj?

WHAT WAS SAID: “You lie so much you can’t keep up with your lies. That “Woman Like Me” record? I had to decline it because I’ve got a lot of pop records, so I can’t over-exaggerate myself,” Cardi claimed on her Instagram Stories. “But that came to me first and then they gave it to you.”

THE RESPONSE: Little Mix brought the receipts to their Instagram.

On Twitter, they put out something a little more official. Like, “drafted in the notes with the help of our publicist” official.

Steve Madden

THE SITUATION: Back in December of 2017, Cardi B announced a partnership with Steve Madden, featuring a curated collection of shoes and sunglasses from the brand’s existing line, and a video series called “Daily Tips With Cardi B.” But who was the first female rapper offered the deal?

WHAT WAS SAID:

THE RESPONSE: First up, Steve Madden’s official Twitter account made the inexplicable decision to come for Nicki, directly accusing her of lying.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! 50 Cent decided to hop in with his two cents (LOL, sorry), sharing Madden’s comments from a 2015 VIBE magazine interview, where he admits to plans of a partnership with Minaj and expresses regret for instead choosing Iggy Azalea. Then Nicki brought herself back into the conversation, and so did…Iggy Azalea? It’s a lot, I know.

Yup, there’s more. Some Olivia Pope-level fixer swooped in to Steve Madden’s Twitter account, writing that Nicki is an incredible artist but that “we couldn’t work together cuz the timing wasn’t right.”

Annnnnd it’s still not over. Nicki made sure she had the last word.

Diesel

THE SITUATION: Nicki Minaj is currently starring in Diesel’s fall/winter anti-bullying campaign, along with Gucci Mane, Bella Thorne, Tommy Dorfman, Yoo Ah-in, and Jonathan Bellini. In the campaign, each celeb wears a piece of “Hate Couture,” which features a cruel social media comment transformed into fashion. In the images, Nicki wears a shirt with the words “The Bad Guy” written across the front. But was Nicki the brand’s first pick for the campaign?

WHAT WAS SAID: In her multi-part Instagram video takedown, Cardi says: “That Diesel deal that you got, yeah that came to me first and I had to decline it because I’m already working with fashion brands. Which y’all are gonna see because there’s more than Fashion Nova.”

THE RESPONSE: In a since deleted Instagram post, Bill Wackermann, the CEO of Wilhelmina (the modelling agency that represents Nicki and cast the entire Diesel campaign), posted a screenshot of Cardi’s video with the caption:“Tell the truth Boo! That Diesel deal was built AROUND the one and only Queen. #truthwillsetyoufree – I’ve got the receipts.”

Nicki chimed in with a comment…

…and then the receipts came in. From BOTH sides of the drama.

Fashion Nova has remained notably mum throughout all of this drama. Probably a wise decision, we think.
