All The Looks From the 2020 Grammys Red Carpet

Tonight’s 2020 Grammys ceremony is expected to be emotionally charged, following the incredibly sad news that basketball legend Kobe Bryant was killed, alongside his 13 year old daughter Gianna, in a helicopter crash earlier today. The awards are being held the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, which Bryant put on the map during his two-decade long career.

Rapper Rick Ross, who is nominated at tonight’s ceremony, was asked about the news on the red carpet, saying, “I’m not even sure I can put this into words.” He added, “I just feel like as a true champion, the champion Kobe was, I believe he would want us to celebrate his legacy — starting with tonight. And whoever gets on that stage, whoever brings one of those home, they gotta hold it up for the Black Mamba.”

Comedian Trevor Noah shared his thoughts, saying, “I don’t think I’ve processed anything yet. I don’t think anyone has. It’s really strange when you feel like you know somebody because of all the moments and impact they’ve had on your life. And I think that’s what a lot of people are going through with the news of Kobe Bryant’s passing and his daughter and the other people involved in the crash. And you can feel it. Everybody’s walking in, and we’re celebrating each other today but it feels like the entire Staples is going to be celebrating someone who inspired others to be the best they could be.”

Many of the celebrities interviewed on the carpet spoke of the night as being a celebration of life, specifically of Kobe, as well as Nipsey Hussle.

Bringing a moment of lightness to the heavy emotion of the night were the fashion looks. Lizzo brought the Old Hollywood glam with a strapless white Atelier Versace gown and fur shawl, whilst Lilly Singh came prepared for the evening, proudly showing off her clear clutch on the carpet that was packed with Skittles. Ariana Grande also shutdown the carpet in her stunning custom Giambattista Valli couture gown.
