April Mani of the Month: Springy Mod Pastel Nails
Welcome to our Mani of the Month series, where we attempt to cut down your time spent staring into the abyss that is the nail salon wall of polish colours by hand-picking a mani that’s recently caught our eye.
Let’s talk about nail art for a minute. Ten years ago when you went for a manicure, you simply picked one colour and left the salon with each nail painted entirely (no negative space, ever) in two coats of that shade and nothing else. Today, that’s the unorthodox, boring move, because nail art has been so normalized that to not have it on offer at your local nail bar feels treasonous to the modern manicure enthusiast. It’s even embraced by the British royals; Princess Eugenie is always opting for fun nail art even though she still had to adhere to the Queen’s only approved nail choice for her wedding. Still, nail art can tend to look tacky or overly busy. One person who consistently nails it (sorry) is Allure’s EIC, Michelle Lee.
Lee even has a branded hashtag for her nail posts, which in an of itself is a solid source of nail-spiration. One part mod, one part pretty pastels, this one of her recent creations is the perfect manicure for spring without, being too literal about it. (Best to leave the florals for your tabletop.) Here are some of the essentials you’ll need to get it done at home.
