Asparagus Is the Unlikely Star of Meghan and Harry’s Wedding Menu
For six months, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stans have been patiently waiting for answers to their royal wedding questions. Will the couple’s first dance be to a live Spice Girls performance of “2 Becomes 1?” Which lucky fashion designer will break the Internet when Markle walks down the aisle? And with all this daddy drama, who will be by Markle’s side when she takes those steps?
What I’m most interested in, however, is what the guests will be eating when the BBC cameras turn off. Royal or not, the most important thing about any party is the food—right? Thankfully, the incredibly active social media manager at Kensington Palace (whom we love SO much) recognizes the meal situation as a pressing pre-wedding issue.
In a new briefing, the Palace has shared that the royal wedding feast has been inspired by the freshest produce available. “Luckily the seasons have just fallen perfectly and that’s become the main focus in the decision making of the menus,” said Mark Flanagan, The Head Chef of The Royal Household. “The couple have been very involved in every detail of it.”
What seasonal produce are we talking about? The article, which features a whopping SEVEN photographs of asparagus, claims that these special stalky greens came all the way “from Portwood Farm in Attleborough in the county.” COOL! Sounds fancy. Just look at these the oh-so-regal kitchen prep images. I mean, have you ever seen someone peel the skin off an asparagus before?
We might not know much about what goes down inside St. George Hall, but there’s one thing we know for sure: with all that asparagus being served, the bathrooms at the royal wedding are sure to have a very distinct scent.
