Best Actor Winner Casey Affleck Speaks Out About Sexual Harassment Allegations
ICYMI: Casey Affleck has been feeling the unforgiving wrath of Twitter—and 2016 Best Actress winner Brie Larson—since taking to the stage to accept his first Oscar.

The younger Affleck’s victories throughout awards season have been met with mass criticism from those who felt Hollywood was overlooking the actor’s off-putting past. In 2010, Affleck was hit with a lawsuit that accused him of sexually harassing two female co-workers from his film I’m Still Here. The suit was settled out of court, and Affleck has since denied the allegations.
Controversy aside, the Manchester by the Sea lead actor says he is “incredibly proud” of his Best Actor win at Sunday night’s Academy Awards.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, the 41-year-old actor said that both sides involved in the lawsuit are legally prohibited from speaking about the case, but added, “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”
He continued, “There’s really nothing I can do about it, other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”
