Beth Ditto and Naomi Campbell Make Their Debut for Calvin Klein in new Fall 2019 campaign
Calvin Klein’s Fall 2019 campaign dropped this week and it’s blowing up the internet — and with good reason. The campaign features a wide variety of models, ethnicities, careers and body shapes serving up a much-welcomed dose of diversity.
Naomi Campbell appears in the campaign, marking her debut for the brand. It’s surprising to think that as one of the industry’s most well-known models (her career spans a massive 33 years) she was yet to star in an ad. Sharing a video on Instagram, the legendary super wrote, “Who would have thought I’d be saying this after 33 years… Proud to be in #MyCalvins #YesIAm.” Campbell stars alongside fellow debutant, musician and body positive advocate Beth Ditto, as well as Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi, Diplo, Odell Beckham Jr., Matthew Noszka and Lay Zhang, the brand’s first Chinese Global Spokesperson.
Ditto explained that she’s been a long-time fan of the brand on social media, admitting that she used to take her boyfriend’s CK One fragrance back in high school. She wrote, “When I was in high school I would sneak my boyfriend’s CK 1 on the regular! I couldn’t afford that kinda “smells good” as my granny Ditto used to say! But looka me now, granny! I’ve made it to model material! Who would have ever thought!”
Bella Hadid (who was recently named as one of the most followed models on social media in 2019) also makes another appearance for the brand, albeit in a less controversial way than her earlier campaign. Back in May, Hadid appeared in an ad for the brand alongside CGI influencer Lil Miquela as part of Calvin Klein’s #MyTruth campaign in which the pair shared a kiss. The internet accused the brand of queerbaiting, forcing it to issue an apology on social media.
