It’s Inauguration Day for Barack Obama and our American friends across the border today and with that pomp, ceremony and history making underway, we’ve got our eyes peeled for the important things. As ever, Michelle Obama made yet another A+ statement, wearing a blue checked Thom Browne coat, J.Crew belt, gloves and shoes (later she changed into an amazing pair of custom Reed Krakoff boots). Those brand new blunt bangs were once again in focus, and surer than ever to spark a few years of copycat cuts. Free of the red and blue dress code, Malia and Sasha Obama made fashion statements of their own, in pink J.Crew and purple Kate Spade coats respectively.
And while today’s inauguration may be all about re-affirming those monarchy-less values that the United States were founded on, we can’t help but make mention to a queen—of fashion that is. In attendance to sing the US national anthem, Beyoncé showed up alongside husband Jay-Z (wearing head-to-toe Tom Ford) in a spellbinding floor skimming embroidered Pucci gown, a mink fur Christian Dior coat and shoes. Score 10,000 for Raf Simons. Never one to shy away from a bit of bling, Beyoncé’s Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings and ring are being reported in at 80 carats and 50 carats.
Looking every bit the goddess she is, Queen Bey opted for a slightly subdued (still perfect) performance as so not to overshadow the day. Oh Bey, don’t you know that’s impossible?
