Paisano’s, an Italian restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico has come under fire recently for selling t-shirts with “Black Olives Matter” printed on them, an obvious jab at the very important #BlackLivesMatter movement. Restaurant owner Rick Camuglia says he started the phrase to promote a new tuna dish the restaurant is offering, and seems to be pretty unapologetic about the whole thing (ugh).
“It’s gone so viral. We’ve gotten calls from Australia, Spain, France, you name it,” Camuglia told his local news station. “People have filled the restaurant and told us to leave up the sign,” Camuglia said. “That’s great, you know, because a lot of people make a living off working for this restaurant.” He claims he wasn’t trying to stir up any racial tensions, and was just trying to garner some attention (again, ugh).
We’ve rounded up a brief history of tasteless and offensive t-shirts (shout out to Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie) below.
