Calgary: Knit one, Purrl two

As fall draws near, Calgarians tend to hold their breath, bracing themselves for a quick and abrupt end to summer. While savouring every last moment of warm weather can be disheartening to some, for others it means an opportunity to check out the latest in fall fashion. In autumn, the air is crisp and leaves are a riot of colours. For me, it’s a perfect recipe for handholding and a warm embrace.

Walking into Purr’s new 17th Avenue location (601 17th Ave. SW, Suite 100, 403-244-7877), it was clear that romance was in the air, thanks to delicate knits, moody prints and antique effects. I was immediately drawn to an elegant grey dress from the brand new label Left on Houston (leftonhouston.com). There was no way I could resist this heavenly knit hug. The dress is feminine, with a scoop neck, a woven belt, and a hemline that flutters right above the knee. And at $150, it seems a reasonable price to pay for a dress that is sure to turn heads this fall.

And what whispers romance more than husband-and-wife team Danny and Carla Hogg, the couple behind the Vancouver-based knitwear label? This fashion duo share 20 combined years of experience and have forged a fashionable mark on the industry, hand in hand.

Left on Houston is also available at Purr’s second location (1220 Kensington Rd. NW, 403-270-3585).
