Controversial Child Model Thylane Blondeau Named New Face of L’Oréal
Six years ago, Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau came into the spotlight for her Vogue Enfants shoot which was deemed too sexualized by many. The then-10-year-old French model was pictured in the magazine sporting heavy makeup, heels and lots of bling.
However, that didn’t stop the St. Tropez-born French beauty (who was deemed “the most beautiful girl in the world“) from pursuing her modelling career. Since her Vogue Enfants shoot, she’s covered Jalouse magazine, starred in Dolce & Gabbana’s spring/summer 2017 campaign alongside Zendaya, Lucky Blue Smith and Presley Gerber and walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana’s fall/winter 2017 show. She’s also sat front row at Chanel’s fashion shows and befriended models and celebrity spawns of the moment Brooklyn Beckham, Kaia Gerber, Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis and Barbara Palvin (whom she eerily resembles).
But now, on her 16th birthday, Blondeau has landed her first major contract as L’Oréal’s newest ambassador. As per Fashionista, a release from L’Oréal explains Thylane was previously a “friend of the brand,” having “joined the ‘Lorealista Squad'” for her first Cannes Film Festival red carpet last year, but is now will now be working with L’Oréal on an official basis.
Thylane will appear in campaigns for L’Oréal’s hair, skincare and makeup categories, starting off with the brand’s Hydra Genius line.
“Truly inspiring thousands and thousands of young women, Thylane is a voice for a generation that spends more time connecting to each other than any generation before it, sharing images more than words,” said Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou, L’Oréal’s global brand president, via a statement. “This new generation deeply needs aspirational models that reimagine and influence beauty through their creativity and styling. L’Oréal Paris is thrilled to welcome Thylane to join the brand that’s driving digitalized beauty forward, to be an ambassador for the most genius products designed for young women looking for self-confidence and empowerment like her.”
As for the birthday girl, she issued a statement saying, “I am so honoured to join the L’Oréal Paris family, which is one of the most amazing beauty brands I always dream about,” while citing L’Oréal as “a brand where I feel I can be myself, defending values that matter for me such as self-confidence and self-esteem.”
Thylane, who is signed to IMG models, will join the brand’s existing lineup of models including Karlie Kloss, Irina Shayk, Alexina Graham, Isabeli Fontana, Doutzen Kroes and her doppelgänger, Palvin (could a joint-campaign be in the works?). And it looks like she is already being welcomed with open arms into the L’Oréal family, with Kroes dedicating an Instagram to the brand’s newest member.
