Daylight Savings survival guide: 8 fashion, health + beauty tips that’ll help you wake up

In case you haven’t marked it on your calendars yet, Daylight Savings is this weekend. Dun-dun-dun. Morning person or not, somehow getting up the morning after we turn the clocks ahead is particularly rough. Who knew losing an hour in the week would be so hard? While we can get away with looking and feeling like a zombie on Sunday morning (well, sort of), we want to make sure you’re looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed come Monday morning. Behold, 8 tried-and-trued fashion and beauty tips to help you survive Daylight Savings.

Wash your face with cold water
There’s nothing like splashing your face with cold water to really wake up all your senses in the morning. Aside from getting the circulation going, it also closes up your pores and tightens your skin (peace out, wrinkles!). According to Into The Gloss, Pharrell Williams swears by this trick. And for a 42-year-old who looks half his age, he’s obviously on to something.

Get a healthy flush/glow
Getting a morning sweat on can help you feel awake, but also gets your blood circulating. Try a 15-minute jog or run, or even an intense interval-training workout.

Refrigerate your moisturizer
Pop your moisturizer into the fridge before applying it in the morning. Similar to washing your face with cold water, this simple trick is an easy way to wake you up and help eliminate puffiness.

Wear a bright-coloured top
With spring just around the corner, it’s time to store your darker-hued clothes away and bring out the brights. Opt for vibrant prints (think vintage Pucci) with lots of swirls and movement. Not only will it get heads turning, it will undoubtedly brighten everyone’s day.

Apply a brightening mask the night before
Waking up like Beyoncé isn’t likely, but we can certainly strive for it. For starters, try a brightening sheet mask infused with some vitamin C goodness (try Dr.Jart+ Brightening Infusion Hydrogel Mask, $9, sephora.ca) before you go to sleep. Not only will it clear and nourish your skin during your beauty sleep, you’ll also wake up with a brighter-looking skin. #win

Boost your posture
Slumping over won’t only make you look worn out, it will also make you feel less alert. Try starting your day with some simple stretches: Standing, join your palms overhead and straighten your elbows, then lean your torso to the left until you feel a gentle stretch along the side of your body and lower back. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side. Tip: Don’t collapse into your waist; rather extend your body toward the ceiling as you stretch.

De-puff your eyes
Lack of sleep tends to show up in our eyes first. Give your eyes some TLC by banishing puffiness and dark circles with the help of an eye serum (we love Amore Pacific Intensive Vitalizing Eye Essence, $105, sephora.ca) that features a cooling tip.

Try an open neck top
Bundling up in a turtleneck, oversized sweater and a scarf sounds nice and cozy, but it’s the last thing you want to do when you’re dozing off. Opt for an open neck top like an off the shoulder, deep V or a scoop neck to make you feel less covered up, and therefore more awake.
