Dear Rob Kardashian: Keep Your Revenge Porn off our Instagrams
Few aspects of Kardashian-Jenner life are kept private. And sometimes, the Klan gives us more than we want.
On Wednesday morning, the family’s patriarch, Rob Kardashian, took to Instagram to air his frustrations with ex-girlfriend Blac Chyna. The social media rant, which has continued into the early afternoon, includes a series of intimate videos, explicit photographs and slut-shaming screenshot messages.
It all started when Rob shared a video of Chyna kissing another man, that, according to Kardashian, she sent him on July 4th. It was also the same day Rob was photographed splashing in the pool with the couple’s daughter, Dream Kardashian.
Rob then posted a photo of Blac Chyna’s crotch, where her skirt had been pulled up to reveal her genitals. He captioned it: “This is from Chyna yesterday to me. I never been so disrespected in my life. I just bought her 250K of jewelry yesterday. This woman is so disrespectful and I don’t care.”
He continued to share revenge porn to his nine million followers, with a full-frontal photo and a snap of her bare behind. The graphic photos have since been removed, though it’s unclear whether they were taken down by Instagram or by Rob himself. Either way, screenshots of the images continue to circulate on the web, where they are likely to remain forever.
In California, it is considered a crime to distribute sexually explicit images of someone without their consent. However, according to TMZ, because Chyna “liked” the pics on Instagram it’s hard to argue she suffered emotional distress. They also shared doubt that Chyna would file a police report against Rob.
A recent study from the International Journal of Technoethics found that not enough people realize revenge porn is a real problem—and a tabloid-fuelled drama without consequences might not help to criminalize the act. After all, it was a leaked sex tape that arguably launched the Kardashian brand.
UPDATE: Rob Kardashian’s Instagram account has been deleted. On spokesperson from Instagram provided Refinery 29 a statement about the incident: “At Instagram we value maintaining a safe and supportive space for our community and we work to remove reported content that violates our guidelines.”
Kardashian has since moved the rant to Twitter, where he has posted a series of similar tweets about Chyna.
