Decoding the outfits in Mad Men’s Season 7 promo shots
Mad Men Season 7 is bound to be tense, reflective and “up in the air,” but if we can discern anything from the just-released promo stills, it’s that the dawning of a new era means different things for different Drapers.
The show’s final installment will take us into the 1970s, which is sure to muddy the already blurred lives of the characters (all while being conveniently really on-trend with this season’s runways.)
Don is looking a little aged in the shots, if not a little out of touch with the ‘70s relaxed styles. Betty, too, wears eternal passive aggression like a mask, with her peachy tallons the only sign of life on her matte exterior. Meanwhile, Sally, who’s bound to get up to no good this season, is dressed like an overgrown child in a too-short baby doll dress quite literally reminiscent of Baby Doll (and if that’s a hint, dark days are ahead).
If the ’70s are kind to any of the (ex-)Drapers, it’s Megan, who is looking more babely than we could have predicted even at the height of Zou Bisou Bisou fever. Gone are the prim get-ups of her first appearances on the show, and here to stay is skin, skin and more skin. Like a page out of the Fall 2015 runways (exhibit A, exhibit B, exhibit C), her lace-y midriff baring bell-bottom pantsuit is, for lack of a better descriptor, EVERYTHING! While some have Megan pegged for doom (she survived last season’s rumoured Manson murder plot), we’d like to think this pantsuit speaks volumes for the freewheelin’ future of our favourite Montreal expat.
Mad Men Season 7 (part 2) premieres on April 5, 2015 on AMC.
