Did Somebody Just Say Wine Pants?

Wine and pants. Two completely unrelated subjects and never the twain shall meet. Right? Right. That is, until now.

In a new partnership with French wine brand Félix & Lucie,  Toronto designer Hayley Elsaesser has come out with a pair of printed bottoms that she has dubbed wine pants. Regrettably, they’re not filled with wine (much to our dismay), but they are technologically enhanced to ensure you’re better able to enjoy a glass of silky Merlot.

How does it work exactly? Each pair is outfitted with a pocket lined with a special material that blocks the electronic signals connected to your phone. The pants are designed to counter the impact that excessive working hours have on Canadians; when you slide your phone into the pocket, you’re able to take a break from your busy work schedule by ignoring incoming work emails and text messages.

These pants come in two different styles, the Félix and the Lucie, both priced at $98. The Félix is described as being “playful but understated, made for those who sip thoughtfully, contemplating the world over something rich and full-bodied,” while the Lucie is considered to be “bolder, but not brash, for the social butterfly – the one who fills every glass before their own and gets their refreshment from the company they keep.” As sweatpants, both styles definitely check the comfort box, which means that you’re not likely to be wearing them to your desk job in the first place…but let’s not get too caught up in the details.

These pants are certainly unlike anything we’ve seen before, and who knows, maybe this will encourage other brands to design clothing that will have a positive impact on quality of life. Disconnecting from the world is important, and with a glass of wine in hand? It doesn’t get better than that.

These pants favour personal time over work, and that’s a concept we can get behind.
