Does Taylor Swift Even Have a Squad Anymore?
There is some hard evidence circulating that hints to the disbanding of a certain girl group. And should we really be surprised?
I mean, it happens. Look at Victoria Beckham and the Spice Girls, Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child. What made us all think that Taylor Swift and the Squad would be any different? Nothing Gold Can Stay…
Earlier this week, it became clear that T. Swift broke the most time-honoured all-American tradition. She did NOT throw her highly-photographed, extremely patriotic, star-studded, long weekend 4th of July bash. This left the world confused, and our Independence Day Instagram roundup, well, lacking.
She’s MIA on social media, too. Remember when we counted on Swift to share at least one #squadgoals pic Instagram a week? Not anymore. The “Shake it Off” singer seems to be sticking to sharing the songs of her closest “friends” instead.
Friends that, apparently, she doesn’t even hang out with, reveals a new piece of (probably misconstrued) gossip.
When Lorde was asked about hanging out with her idols (read: Taylor Swift), she gave this very *down to earth* response: “The second you think too hard about it, you just start to go insane. So it’s best to just be like, ‘We’re in wonderland, and that’s just what happens around here.’ Like, also, I don’t hang out with these people at all.”
When the interviewer suggested that Lorde was a member of Swift’s notorious “squad,” the New Zealand singer rolled her eyes. “You know, you make friends in different places, but I think for the most part I’m not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily.”

OK… So this means Lorde is out of the Swift Squad? That, at least, is what the headlines are suggesting. This news comes just weeks after Lorde compared being friends with Taylor Swift to “having a friend with very specific allergies.” Yikes.
Could all this squad drama have something to do with T. Swift’s new boo? It wouldn’t be the first time a girl fell in love and forgets her friends…
Maybe, at least, we’ll get some good music out of the friendship fallout. A song about something, you know, other than boys and broken hearts.
