Edmonton: A local-jewellery box
Expect the unexpected while admiring the exquisite selection of home decor at The Tin Box (10512-82 Ave., 780-436-2006). If you can peel yourself away from all the kitchen gadgets and picture frames, you’ll find yourself surrounded by an impressive collection of locally designed jewellery.
Aimee Zimaro’s materials include semi-precious gems such as rose and smoky quartz, tiger’s eye and onyx, as well as Swarovski crystals, pearls, gold and sterling silver. The Edmonton-based designer’s wildly popular Aimee Z Designs line is filled with eye-catching and classic necklaces, earrings and bracelets (from $30) that flatter everyone from working professionals to ladies who lunch. Tame spring’s animal prints or add some shine to a safari inspired look with a sterling silver circle link necklace and pendant (shown, $73).
Shakti is a bohemian inspired line of necklaces, bracelets and earrings (from $30), which is rather fitting, considering the designer, Sarah Bowker, also happens to be the owner of the Yogaloft (a yoga studio located on Whyte Avenue). Bowker frequently travels to exotic locales and returns with handfuls of precious and semi-precious stones, such as rubies, diamonds, carnelian and emeralds, which become the basis of her collections. Her pieces are typically fashioned from pure and sterling silver and 18- or 22-karat yellow gold and with their perfect craftsmanship it’s easy to see why her line has a loyal following among Edmonton’s fashionable crowd.
And the best part, in the age where the “frugalista” has replaced the “fashionista,” Zimaro and Bowker have managed to produce quality pieces at recession-friendly price points. Could anything top feeling baublicious without breaking the bank?
Who knew a box (and a tin box at that) would turn out to be a treasure chest full of sparkling finds?
