Edmonton: Visions of chic
My love of accessories is so fierce I am willing to hold out on laser eye surgery in order to continue wearing gorgeous designer eyewear. Trust me when I say my collection surpasses even that of Sir Elton John. I especially adore my sunglasses, which have saved my life when I have either run out of or misplaced my YSL Touche Éclat.
For fall, I have purchased black Gucci frames (show, bottom) and Roberto Cavalli and Marc Jacobs (top) sunglasses. The Guccis are a perfect mix of glamour and geek chic and the sunglasses go perfectly with my tweed day dresses and allow me to channel a modern day Jackie O. In Edmonton, the premiere place to shop for the latest in designer specs is Regent Optical (10546-82 Ave, 780-432-3688). With three more locations in Edmonton, including two stores on Whyte Ave, they clearly have the city covered.
The shops boast over 60 brands, including Dior and Tom Ford, they have in-house optical labs, which mean you can show off your new glasses the next day. The quantity of frames on display may be a little daunting, but manager Carlos Wong is often on-site to offer his expertise in selection and fit. The shop is busier than a designer sample sale on weekends, so if you want to avoid the crowds, visit them on a week day. As the saying goes, your eyes are the windows to your soul and, if you’re like me, you don’t want just anyone to peek in.
