Ellie Goulding’s Chloé Wedding Look Took More Than 1,000 Hours to Make
Over the long weekend, pop star Ellie Goulding married her long-term boyfriend Caspar Jopling in a stunning ceremony at York Minster in England. And whilst there were plenty of newsworthy details, it was her Chloé dress that truly stole the show.
The custom white gown was designed by Creative Director Natacha Ramsay-Levi. It featured a high-neck lace ruffled collar and a silk double-crêpe construction with a glass bead embellishment adorning the whole dress. Goulding’s and Jopling’s initials were embroidered into both the dress and the veil, and White Roses of York were also stitched onto the dress and petticoat as a sweet tribute to Jopling’s Yorkshire heritage.
Such a dress and veil require a serious investment of time – Ramsay-Levi revealed that the dress took more than 640 hours to make, whilst the veil clocked in at 591 hours. That’s a total of 1,231 hours, or 51.2 days.
Speaking with People about the process, the designer said, “We worked on a collage of references from the Victorian era that she wanted to weave into the design, in dialogue with the historical York cathedral where the ceremony was to take place. Her creative point of view made the process fluid and inspiring, and I feel that the end result really reflects her personal style.” She added that Goulding was “very involved in the design.”
Goulding’s bridesmaids dresses were also designed by the house.
Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Sienna Miller, Princess Eugenie and Princess Eugenie were amongst the famous faces that attended the event with Eugenie’s new husband Jack Brooksbank serving as a groomsman for Jopling.
For the reception, the Love Me Like You Do singer pulled a similar move to the Duchess of Sussex, changing out of her Chloé gown and into a more form-fitted Stella McCartney dress. The piece feature an off-the-shoulder design with a thigh-high split – perfect for partying the night away.
The bride also wore custom looks from Balmain and Ralph & Russo at the reception.
