Everything that Upset the Internet this Week
TGIF! Since it’s the weekend (finally), there’s a chance you will be talking to some people in some social situations. Or maybe you won’t, and that’s totally okay too.
Either way, it’s good to stay informed. The Internet is always buzzing with scandal and controversy, and it’s important to keep up to date if you want to sound pop culture savvy. Plus, drama is always super fun.
Alicia Vikander photoshopped on Tomb Raider poster
THE STORY: Oscar-winning actresss Alicia Vikander is taking over the role of Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider movie. The film, which hits theatres March of 2018, just unveiled its debut movie poster.
Her legend begins. #TombRaider, in theaters March 2018. pic.twitter.com/PL9N6HPuM9

Anybody else notice the horrible Photoshop job on the Tomb Raider poster? Left: Theirs Right: My fix up. pic.twitter.com/BSVjOVu2d3

The more I look at the Tomb Raider movie poster the less sense that neck makes to me pic.twitter.com/PCq2J5JkMO

RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: This was a major fail. Dramatic photoshopping creates unrealistic expectations for audiences — especially young women. Lara Croft is a badass heroine that little girls should be able to look up to. And let’s be honest, the poster just looks stupid. Plain and simple. Alicia Vikander is more beautiful with a normal, human size neck.

Piers Morgan says white people should be able to use the N-word
THE STORY: A group of white sorority girls at the University of New Hampshire came under fire for singing all the lyrics Kanye West’s “Gold Digger.” Piers Morgan wrote an column in the Daily Mail blaming Kanye (and all other rappers) for putting the N-word in their lyrics.
THE REACTION:
I'm actually sick and tired of the likes of Katie Hopkins and Piers Morgan prospering for targeting and publicly harassing minority groups
— ?? (@jasonosamede) September 22, 2017
.@piersmorgan is the walking embodiment of white privilege, white fragility & toxic masculinity. If u don't know what that means… Google.
— Munroe Bergdorf (@MunroeBergdorf) September 22, 2017
Sorry Piers Morgan, but white people don't get 2 sing or use the n-word just because Kanye ( a black man) raps it. Doesn't make it OK
— LetsKeepItReal (@SippingDaTea) September 22, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: When black people say the N-word, they’re reclaiming a word that’s long been used against them. When white people say it (or sing it in a song), they re-enforce the violence of its original meaning. Besides, it’s not that hard to skip a word in karaoke. Just don’t say it. End of story.

There’s a “Border Patrol” Halloween costume
THE STORY: Gothamist has reported that NYC locations of Spirit Halloween Superstores are selling Border Patrol agent costumes.
THE REACTION:
Is this the world's most tone deaf Halloween costume ever? Probably. https://t.co/5QxLQYoiUu
— Dark&FeveredDreams (@darkandfevered) September 22, 2017
@SpiritHalloween why exactly do you have a border patrol costume. Do you have any idea how many lives and families are ruined over that?
— Bex Alexandra 14 (@lgbtqiabex) September 11, 2017
Saw a "border patrol" costume and you KNOW some asshole thinks that's funny and is gonna walk around pretending like it's all okay
— Keira (@PotteReal) September 22, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: Apparently, this is suppose to be a “comedic” costume. The state of immigration in America isn’t exactly funny: millions of individuals are living in a state of fear that their lives will be uprooted and their families will be torn apart. Steven Choi, director of the New York Immigration Coalition, told Gothamist, “It takes a vast amount of privilege to find humor in a uniform that represents terror and fear for millions of New Yorkers. . . . We hope people will exercise better judgement and choose not to spend their money at these stores.”

Harry Styles fans pay more for bigger merch
THE STORY: Fans at Styles’ solo LA show noted that the larger sized merch shirts are a bit more expensive than the smaller ones. A Harry fan Twitter account shared the prices of the tees, showing the extra small, small and medium sized shirts priced at $40 while the larges and above cost $45.
THE REACTION:
ummm who’s idea was it to charge an extra $5 for a bigger t-shirt bc they need to be fired and choked
— b r e (@hansenfthes) September 19, 2017
Ok but why is it cheaper for skinnier people?
— chickennuggetstyles (@Flogenshwarts) September 19, 2017
Makes sense..I love Harry but I just find it kinda strange cause now bigger fans are gonna feel bad about it whether or not that's the case
— chickennuggetstyles (@Flogenshwarts) September 19, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: This is crazy. But apparently, it was all one big ol’ misunderstanding. “There was a mistake in size pricing at [Wednesday] night’s show,” according to a representative for Live Nation. “Harry and his team were unaware and this has now been rectified.” SO IT’S NOT HARRY’S FAULT OKAY?!
