Everything that Upset the Internet this Week
Happy Friday! It’s finally the weekend, which means you’ll likely be sitting on a patio arguing about politics and pop culture with your friends. (Or maybe you’ll crawl under the covers and troll the Internet with savage comments. We support you either way!)
If you plan on getting into a verbal brawl, you better to be informed! (Not that that has stopped anyone on the Internet before…) From a president who thinks confederate statues are beautiful to mayo in a coffee cup, here’s a roundup of the controversies that rocked the Internet this week.
Kendall Jenner’s first Adidas ad
THE STORY: People are angry that Kendall Jenner is representing Adidas because she’s a model, not an athlete.
THE REACTIONS:
Why doesn't Adidas use actual athletes fuck Kendall Jenner use Simone Biles or Venus and Serena Williams anyone whose an actual athlete
— Nas (@nazables01) August 11, 2017
Thanks to your choice to use Jenner as your rep I am no longer a customer or fan. There goes 40 years of you being my "go to" for shoes!
— Kacey Cabbage (@KaceyCabbage) August 11, 2017
This is the least athletic person in the entire universe selling athletic footware. I can just see the @nike response clowning this pitch
— Bob Sterling (@OneBoredDude) August 10, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: Were people this angry when Gigi Hadid became a Reebok ambassador? Adidas Originals (vs Adidas the sportswear brand) is typically characterized as streetwear—the brand is in no way worn exclusively by athletes. It seems that backlash and controversy come with anything the Jenner/Kardashian klan attaches their name to.

Trump defends Civil War-era statues
THE STORY: Last weekend’s violent white supremacy rally in Charlottesville protested the city’s plan to remove a Confederate general statue. On Thursday, President Donald Trump tweeted: “Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can’t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson – who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish! Also…the beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced”
THE REACTIONS:
Horrifying that an American president publicly supports white supremacists & is now making the case to preserve symbols of slavery
— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) August 17, 2017
You know what would be strong leadership? Call to have them taken down. Use your un-american wall budget to move them into a history museum.
— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) August 17, 2017
Even if it's not about slavery, these men still donned uniforms of a foreign nation and fought to destroy the USA. That's what ur "honoring"
— Drew (@Drew_0721) August 17, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: Trump used language very similar to that of white supremacists to argue that the statues of slavers should remain in place. Let’s not forget: confederate monuments are not just symbols of racial hate—they’re symbols of anti-American rebellion.

Man on Twitter put mayo in his coffee
THE STORY: Twitter user @_SonOfADeitch looked to his followers for some kitchen advice: “I’m out of milk & I’m making boxed Mac & cheese. Can I substitute cottage cheese for the milk?” A man named Jim Salisbury responded to the tweet and wrote, “I once used mayo in coffee when out of half and half. not half bad.”
THE REACTIONS:
— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) August 16, 2017
I'm reporting you for this tweet
— Mr. Fuck (@gewqk) August 17, 2017
Now we know what #Covfefe is.
— Araminta Ross (@RacquelDaigle) August 18, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: This is insane. Jim what is wrong with you?!?!?

Dylan Sprouse cheated on his model girlfriend
THE STORY: Dylan Sprouse (twin of the more famous Cole Sprouse) has had been dating model Dayna Frazer for three years. Last week, she deleted all traces of him on her social media and posted a pic of her crying to her Insta story, captioned, “When you find out your bf cheated on you lol.”
THE REACTIONS:
Cheating is a choice? Dylan Sprouse has hella explaining to do pic.twitter.com/jqqRJVZMg0
— Lucy ? (@_lucyyy_xo) August 10, 2017
Dylan sprouse cheated on his supermodel girlfriend after 4 years men really aren't shit
— emma (@emma_sousa) August 11, 2017
RIP Dylan Sprouse
He ain't dead but my respect for him is— Maggs ♛ (@jugsangel) August 10, 2017
RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE RAGE: Cheating isn’t cool—but let’s not judge. Three sides of every story right? After being victim to some unpleasant online backlash, Dylan tweeted: “I will say this and only this: by adhering to an assumption based on limited information, you neglect the complicated nature of this issue.” He later tweeted, “This is complicated and it will remain complicated, but those who know me and who have known me, know well enough what kind of person I am.”
True Dyl, we feel you. Breakups suck, so whatever happened we’re sad the two have split.
