Everything you need to know about Bouchra Jarrar, Lanvin’s new designer
Even though we’re still reeling from Alber Elbaz’s departure earlier this year, it was announced today that Bouchra Jarrar will be taking the helm as artistic director at Lanvin. Who knows if that means the reign of the distressed hem, oversized costume jewellery and patent ballet flats will be over, but change is good, especially at a house that’s floundering financially.
We may have heard her name mentioned in the past, but we need the full backstory on Jarrar. Who exactly is she? Where did she come from? Will she really be able to fill the big, glamour-and-grosgrain-ribbon-filled shoes of Elbaz? We can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve.
In the meantime, here are six things to know about Lanvin’s fresh face.
1. Born in Cannes, Jarrar graduated from Paris’s Duperré School of Applied Arts.
2. The 45-year-old designer previously worked under Christian Lacroix (where she was Couture Head of Design) and Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga (as studio director) before launching her namesake label in 2010.
3. She earned her haute couture designation in 2013.
4. She takes a tailored approach to design with lots of daywear and a focus on technique.
5. For her couture collections she has collaborated with the same crystal and feather work ateliers used by Chanel.
6. Her first full Lanvin collection will be Spring 2017.
