Farfetch to Launch Collection of White Shirts in Honour of Karl Lagerfeld
The fashion industry is still very much mourning the loss of Karl Lagerfeld. Following his passing in February, there have been many tributes to the late designer, including during the Chanel and Fendi F/W19 runway shows, as well as the renaming of the LVMH Special Prize to the Karl Lagerfeld Prize.
And now, e-commerce giant Farfetch has today announced the launch of a capsule collection later this month to honour the industry icon. The capsule contains seven white shirts – a staple in Lagerfeld’s own wardrobe which he was rarely (if ever) seen without. “If you asked me what I’d most like to have invented in fashion, I’d say the white shirt. For me, the white shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes after,” he once said of the item.
The site has teamed up with seven of the designer’s closest friends including Cara Delevingne, Carine Roitfeld, Diane Kruger, Takashi Murakami, Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Moss and Sébastien Jondeau, to reinterpret the white shirt in their own distinct aesthetic.
Delevingne’s shirt features sketches of some of her most recognizable tattoos because “Karl was always fascinated by the story of my tattoos,” says the actress, whilst Kate Moss’ design features words from poet Sonny Hall as she believes “Karl would have loved him…Karl was always holding a pen and laughing, I think it’s the perfect tribute to him.”

On its website, Farfetch revealed that proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be donated to the Sauver La Vie charity initiative for medical research at the Paris Descartes University. The shirts will each be made in a run of just 77 and will retail for 777 euros (roughly CAD$1,130), in a nod to Lagerfeld’s favourite number, 7. They will be available via Farfetch and Karl.com on September 26.
