FASHION + Music: Dan Levy shares his ultimate summer playlist
FASHION is launching a new online channel to showcase stylish up-and-coming acts. Want to be featured? Upload your video link at fashionmagazine.com/music, and you might just spot your video on our site. Plus, we’ve lined up guest editors who’ll be selecting their favourite tracks. First up: MTV Canada’s Dan Levy picks his top summer tunes:
Now that we can finally start wearing our summer wardrobes, we should also be taking a quick sec to think about the songs that will make those breezy clothes dance. As guest music curator at fashionmagazine.com, I’ll be spending the next couple of months with my headphones on, compiling my ultimate summer playlist. But I can’t do it alone–feel free to help by telling us your favourite summer anthems in the comments. Our goal: To create a fashionable soundtrack to beat the heat.
Read on for Dan’s picks.
“Tightrope” by Janelle Monáe featuring Big Boi
A fresh new take on a classic old school sound. If this song doesn’t get you dancing, I don’t know what will. And Janelle’s personal style is an excellent cherry on top.
“Valium Knights” by Spinnerette
While this song is by no means new (it was featured in Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 show), it will always keep it’s cool. This little number will definitely get you in the mood for a solid, sweaty night on the town.
“Caesar” by I Blame Coco featuring Robyn
What happens when Sting’s model/musician daughter Coco Sumner teams up with a Swedish pixie/hipster-pop music revolutionary? Take a listen and get ready to rebel.
“Swing Tree” by Discovery
There’s just something about this song that screams (or rather softly suggests) a lazy sun-filled day in the park with some friends.
“Can I Kick It?” by A Tribe Called Quest
I think that explaining why this classic track should be included is probably unnecessary.
