Fashion news: Estrella Archs leaves Ungaro, Vera Wang + David’s Bridal, and Rodarte’s carnival game
The dusty Ungaro drama is far from settling, with the announcement today that Estrella Archs leaving the label. “Estrella Archs announces that she has left her job as chief designer of Emanuel Ungaro due to irreconcilable differences related to the creative direction of the brand,” a spokesperson for the designer confirmed. Anna Wintour spoke at the Pratt Institute last night in a tribute to Irving Penn, and we got a glimpse into the softer side of the Vogue editor-in-chief, calling Penn a “seductive” man who she immediately had “an intellectual crush [on].” She concluded her speech quite emotionally, saying “He made me a better editor. He was always in my head…. Irving’s gifts to us will not end.” [Fashionista]
The bankrupt brand Rock & Republic also has some extra baggage to deal with, as founder Michael Ball has gotten himself tangled up in a love triangle. Read slowly to follow this mess: Fernanda Romero, a model for the brand, married pizza deliveryman and musician Kent Ross, allegedly for U.S. residency. Ball reportedly helped arrange the union. First however, Romero dumped fashion photographer Markus Klinko for her pizza guy. Klinko was none too happy and revealed the scheme to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in jealous revenge. So where does this leave Ball? Vera Wang+David’s Bridal=a budgeting bride’s dream come true. For those brides-to-be that appreciate Wang’s work but find the price tags a bit pesky, the collaboration brings dresses that top out at $1,500. It launches in the U.S. for Spring 2011. [Stylecaster]

To celebrate their new “High Style” exhibition, The Brooklyn Museum has tapped Opening Ceremony co-owners Humberto Leon and Carol Lim to create a carnival. The duo have brought in six labels—Band of Outsiders, Philip Crangi, Patrick Ervell, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rodarte and Slow and Steady Wins the Race—to make individual carnival games like the classic ring-toss and tarot card reading. LG has managed to seduce Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria to endorse their mobile phone, LG Fashion Touch. The two appear in a YouTube video giggling and prancing around racks of clothing. [Grazia UK]
