Fashion news: Rebecca Minkoff bucks the diffusion trend and Gucci for kids
This week is proving to be one of baby fever. There were two pregnancy announcements yesterday and today comes news of Gucci launching a children’s line later this year. [WWD]
Olivier Theyskens‘ wanted to be a girl: “When I was young, about six, I was very jealous of girls because I wasn’t one of them. I was always imagining what it is to be a beautiful girl.” But he got over it: “Because I am a perfectionist, it put me off the idea. So I quickly became Olivier. I am very happy to be a boy and I never think about it any more.” [Styleite]
Hudson’s Bay Company CEO Jeffrey Sherman is retiring, effective June 1. The company had taken him out of retirement for their much-publicized restructuring, and with the bulk of the revamp complete, Sherman is leaving on a high note. He will not be replaced. [The Star, via Toronto Life]
Rebecca Minkoff is bucking the trend for lower-priced lines. At the request of Saks Fifth Avenue, the designer is creating a new line that ups her usual price range, with pieces running from about US$550 to US$2,000. [Style.com]
The Jason Wu/Michelle Obama friendship continues, with an invitation for the designer to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Also included in the star-powered event are Jessica Alba and Michelle Pfeiffer, film producer Jerry Weintraub and Google CEO Eric Schmidt. [WWD]
Carolina Herrera felt somewhat duped after appearing on the reality show High Society. At the opera last fall someone asked Herrera to sign a release form, which she did, thinking it was for still photography. Herrera did not know she was being filmed for High Society. “It’s not my aspiration to appear on a reality show,” Herrera said. “That’s the last thing I need in my life.” [The Cut]
The Emanuel dress that a 19 year-old Diana wore in her first official appearance after her engagement to Prince Charles–and that awarded her the tabloid nickname “Daring Di“–is going up for sale, along with other pieces from her wardrobe. It was this dress however, that the world saw Diana come out from her shy shell in, and probably launched her status as a fashion icon. [Vogue UK]
