Fashion news: Rodarte outfits the Olympics, MK and Ashley launch a denim line and Sammi “Sweetheart” might walk at Bryant Park
Surprise – Rodarte gets their own fashion show at the Olympics. The New York Times magazine asked Kate and Laura Mulleavy to design 13 outfits for athletes, including figure skaters, a ski jumper and snowboarders. Figure skater Johnny Weir will be decked out in head-to-toe crocheted Rodarte; we’re curious to see what the athletes will be wearing as they compete outdoors. [Racked]
Adding to their whirlwind month, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have launched a new denim line, Textile Elizabeth and James. Launching in March, the three-jean collection is ‘70s inspired, both in style and name: there’s the Hendrix, the Stevie and the Joni, all featuring a hippie twist, be it through a high-waist or bellbottom leg. The jeans will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Intermix with plans to expand the collection to a full lifestyle collection in the fall. [WWD]
The gap between celebrities and fashion has narrowed even further with the news that not only has the cast of Jersey Shore been approached by three designers to attend their New York fashion week shows, but supposedly the labels are also focusing in on J-Woww and Sammi as models. The names of the designers that are allegedly pursuing the reality show stars haven’t been released. [The Cut]
While New York fashion week is more geographically attainable for fashion lovers on the northeast side of the border to attend, heading across the pond for London Fashion Week takes a few more airmiles. With the announcement of LFW going digital however, all you’ll have to worry about now is the time difference. The British Fashion Council has launched a website that allows fashion followers to stream live fashion shows and view fashion films during LFW—the first site of it’s kind. Starting February 19th, tune in to the website (londonfashionweek.co.uk/digitalschedule) for a front row seat at London Fashion Week. [Vogue UK]
Good news for the bespectacled population: Giorgio Armani is launching a prescription eyewear collection, finding his inspiration from…himself! The designer is wanting to recreate the look that characterized his original eyewear, and describes this line as “pure designs that avoid artificial, uneasy or impossible forms.” [WWD]
M.A.C. Cosmetics and Liberty of London have partnered up to create a limited-edition makeup collection. Clad in cartoony flowers and designs, the products range from lipsticks and eyeshadow to nail polish and specially-designed Liberty scarf. The collection launches on March 11th. [Fashion Indie]
