First Aid Beauty Launches $1 Million Student Debt Relief Initiative
First Aid Beauty has announced the launch of a new student debt relief initiative that aims to help students start fresh once they finish college, free from financial burdens. Announced this week, the initiative is called FAB AID and will see the American company commit $1 million to help relieve students of their debt.
In a release, brand founder Lilli Gordon said, “As someone who once struggled with student debt and now sees young First Aid Beauty employees facing the same challenges, this crisis hits close to home for me, personally, and FAB as a company. We’re proud to make a commitment toward impacting the futures of deserving college graduates and give them the freedom to pursue their dreams free from the crushing impact of loans.”
Students are eligible to apply for FAB Aid if they have graduated from an accredited 4-year undergraduate college or university between January 2018 and August 2020. Applications are now open (in the US and Canada), and the recipients, who will receive up to $100,000 each, will be announced on November 10 of this year. The winners will be chosen by a panel of esteemed names, including Gordon, Disney channel actress Laura Marano, activist and entrepreneur Nabela Noor, YouTube personality Aja Dang, finance expert and bestselling author Bola Sokunbi and Barry Mills, the former president of Bowdoin College who replaced student loans with grants.
To help fund the initiative, First Aid Beauty has released a limited edition product – the FAB AID Ultra Repair Cream – from which 10 per cent of the retail sales will be added to the fund. The cream, which aids hydration immediately as well as providing long-term relief for dry skin, is available exclusively at Sephora in Canada both in store and online with prices beginning at $18.
