First look: Ewanika’s fall collection is full of relaxed, but grown-up pieces

Fall heralds a new simplicity–all uncluttered sportswear, fuss-free silhouettes and neutral palettes. Taking a peek through Ewanika‘s (1083 Bathurst St., Toronto, 416-927-9699, ewanika.ca) fall lookbook, we were happy to locate a collection’s worth of these easy-going grown-up pieces. This kind of pared-back chic is nothing new for Toronto designer Trish Ewanika–polished and tailored looks have been her schtick for far more than a season. The fall palette is subdued–a single floral-print silk breaks up the charcoal, camel, blue-grey hues–and the pencil skirts, suit jackets and sheath dresses are the very definition of wardrobe staples. If it sounds like a snooze, it’s not: yummy fabrics and just-so details make these pieces must-haves. Our picks: A pencil skirt with a single slash pocket and a strip of grosgrain ribbon down the side; a relaxed wool shirt jacket with a slight sheen; and a long-sleeve camel-hued sheath and a buttoned-up cardigan dress–the last two with nary an embellishment beyond deep Celine-esque patch pockets.
