Today, one of our favourite royals and style icons turns 30 years old. Happy birthday, Kate Middleton! While there are rumours of celebrations at a private ‘80s-themed party tonight, yesterday the duchess was in the public eye—on the red carpet at the War Horse London premiere. (And most of us would certainly accept that black lace Temperley dress as an early birthday present!)

So, what’s it like to turn 30 when you’re royalty? We suspect that when you’re the future queen consort of England, you have other things to worry about aside from getting older. (Producing an heir and fulfilling royal duties, to name a few!) We take a look back at what Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana were doing on their big birthdays, and look ahead at what Kate will be up to this year.
