Here’s a First Look at Netflix’s New Series GLOW Starring Alison Brie
This summer could shape up to be a couch-only one, thanks to Netflix’s lineup of original binge-worthy TV shows and films. The latest addition to our to watch list? GLOW. Co-created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (Flahive previously worked on Homeland, while Mensch worked on Orange Is the New Black), the comedy is loosely based on the ’80s show of the same name and stars Alison Brie. (Her credits include Mad Men, Community and A Family Man, to name a few.)
Set in the 1980s, the story centres around an L.A.-based struggling actress named Ruth Wilder (played by Brie) who is chasing the dream of making it big in Hollywood. According to the press release, the 10-episode show will follow the ups and downs of Wilder (and 12 other struggling talents/Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), who gets thrown into the world of female wrestling.
Aside from the sure-to-be epic throwback fashion and beauty of ’80s (we’re talking colourful bodysuits, spandex, leg warmers, big hair), we have a feeling GLOW is going to be a cult fave. Orange is the New Black’s co-creators Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann back the show as executive producers, so we know there will be plot twists. The 10-episode show doesn’t debut until June 23, but here is an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming comedy series.
