LVMH Just Appointed a Philosopher to their Board of Directors
Sophie Chassat, an alumni of France’s École Normale Supérieure who holds an illustrious post-graduate qualification in philosophy, has been named to the Board of Directors by the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group. In addition to her prestigious schooling, Chassat is specialist in corporate philosophy and runs her own consulting company called Intikka. A spokesperson from LVMH told WWD that Chassat’s background “will enrich the composition of the board of directors, to which she will bring, in particular, her philosophical insight into societal changes.” Formerly a high school and university instructor, Chassat left education to “take philosophy out of school walls [and] apply it to other realities, make it a little more alive.” An interview with Chassat published on the Kering website (aka LVMH’s biggest competitors) sheds some light on the type of insights she might bring to the LVMH board; “Right now customers do not want to buy just products, they want to buy meaning.” (WWD)
Topshop Billionaire Sir Phillip Green Faces #MeToo Allegations
Sir Phillip Green, one of the richest men in Britain, has been accused of “serious and repeated sexual harassment, racist abuse and bullying,” according to WWD. Green’s behaviour is the subject of an eight-month investigation by The Daily Telegraph that has not yet been published thanks to an injunction preventing the newspaper from revealing his identity. However, Lord Peter Hain, a member of British Parliament for the Labour Party, used his parliamentary privilege to release Green’s name. Green is alleged to have used “non-disclosure agreements and substantial payments” to conceal repeated instances of abusive behaviour. So far, he has supposedly spent upwards of £500,000 in legal fees fighting newspaper from publishing the results of their investigation. Green, of course, “categorically and wholly” denies the allegations. (WWD)
H&M Debuts Moschino Collection with a Star-Studded Runway in NY
Remember when Jeremy Scott made the announcement that Moschino would be collaborating with H&M at a Coachella afterparty? The collection has finally arrived and debuted with a bang on the runway earlier this week in NYC. The collection, which features sequin puffer parkas, CD-ROM printed bodysuits and plenty of louche gold chains, was unveiled to a star-studded audience that included Paris Jackson and Frances Bean Cobain. Gigi Hadid opened the show, but the most stunning moment happened when supermodel Naomi Campbell brought her signature stomp to the runway wearing a glittering silver sequin minidress. “I thought about it like I was creating a feast and I needed to pick all the right ingredients,” the designer told WWD. No doubt Scott delivered a banquet that the fashion world will be grazing on for weeks to come. (WWD)
