Let’s be honest: When the cast for American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson was announced, it seemed like a meme-inducing Lifetime channel disaster. At first glance, a cast that included Selma Blair, John Travolta and David Schwimmer was a source of mockery. But instead, it became a force of nature that netted Emmys and Golden Globes for stars Sterling K. Brown, Courtney B. Vance and Sarah Paulson. (Get a middle initial, would ya?)
Amazon Studios recently acquired the script Linda and Monica—a detailed account of the friendship between Linda Tripp and Monica Lewinsky, by Flint Wainess—and will be turning it into a movie. Produced by the same people who did Fences, the film will bring to life the 1998 scandal that saw Tripp acting as the whistle blower who brought the affair between Lewinsky and then-President Bill Clinton to light.
Inspired by the creative casting employed by Ryan Murphy for The People vs OJ Simpson, we thought we’d dream up a few actors we’d love to see in this sure-to-be-as-juicy movie.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Monica Lewinsky – Nina Dobrev
This will be Dobrev’s great make-under role—you know, the one every actress has to partake in before she is considered a “serious actress.” Playing the 22-year-old Lewinsky, Dobrev will bring the kind of youthful mischievousness that won over a president.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Linda Tripp – Shelley Long
Long is a delight in everything she does, so it would be nice to see her in something resembling a villainous role. Plus, she’s no stranger to fluffy bangs hair.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Bill Clinton – Richard Gere
An older silver-haired fox with enough charm to seduce a young lady, you say? Why, we have just the ticket.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Hillary Clinton – Kate McKinnon
We know McKinnon can play Hillary for laughs, but can she bring the drama? The tears? The betrayal? Probably, but who knows? Bottom line: We go where McKinnon goes.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Kenneth Starr – Sam Lloyd
Mostly because one look at a picture of a 1998 Kenneth Starr made us immediately exclaim “Oh, who’s that actor who always plays a sad sack who can’t catch a break?!” The answer? Sam Lloyd. Doppelgänger.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Newt Gringrich – Rainn Wilson
Thanks to his borderline sociopathic character Dwight on The Office, we know Wilson can be seriously sobering. He’ll have no problem making everyone feel terrible about their life decisions.
Our dream cast for the Linda and Monica movie
Al Gore – Matthew Perry
What?! There needs to be a Friends alum!
