Step 1:
First prep hair with a volume mousse/spray at the roots, and setting lotion to mids to ends. Blow dry the hair giving it plenty of root lift.
Spray the hair with medium hold brushable hairspray generously, then finger comb the hair backwards to give it a looser look.
Hairspray again to hold the hair in place, and secure the hair with an elastic.

Step 2:
Divide the ponytail into two sections, cross the sections and twist them as you would with a rope. Work all the way until you run out of hair.

Step 3:
While holding the bottom of the hair, move up the hair, loosening the hair by pulling gently. Secure the bottom with an elastic.

Step 4:
Twist the hair into a bun, secure the bun in place with a few bobby pins. Loosen a few pieces around the hairline if you like, for a looser look, and give everything a good spray.
