Holts throws an Olympic bash for Dean and Dan
My first week covering the 2010 Winter Games for FASHION was filled with several fashionable appearances courtesy of Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared. First, there was their torch relay in North Van, and on Saturday, I met up with the twins again as they signed autographs at Holt Renfrew (holtrenfrew.com). A huge line awaited the boys (I’ve never seen so many people in the men’s department!), but they were gracious enough to give me a few minutes before meeting their fans.
How did you decide who would wear what dress?
Dean Caten: “Well, we were contacted about designing the outfits in April, and we didn’t know who would be wearing them until June. We wanted to design each dress using one colour from the rings. We knew the blue dress was probably the brightest, and the girl singing the national anthem had to wear red, and we knew there was an opera singer, and Measha was like, “I want gold!” from the very beginning.”
What about the sweatshirts ($350) you designed for Holt Renfrew? What inspired the design?
“We wanted to do something special and we wanted to work a little vintage into the sweatshirt with the embroidery. Plus, we wanted it to be something warm—it was supposed to be colder!”
